Event Details
On March 17th and 18th the Global Transition 2012 is hosting the second Global Transition Dialogue on the new economy in collaboration with the following organisations:
|
CIVICUS Centre for Environment and Development (Sri Lanka) Danish 92 Group Green Economy Coalition Instituto Vitae Civilis International Trade Union Confederation new economics foundation (nef)
|
New Economics Institute Stakeholder Forum for a Sustainable Future UNDESA UNDP UNEP UNITAR UN-NGLS |
Building on the success of the first Dialogue in October, 2011, this second Dialogue in the series, coinciding with the March ‘informal’ negotiations and the third intersessional meeting of the UNCSD conference secretariat, is an opportunity for policy makers, international and local NGOs, academics, and practitioners to come together to engage in open discussions to develop practical, implementable solutions that will facilitate a global transition to the new economy.
As we move towards Rio +20, the outcome of this dialogue will catalyse, ongoing partnerships and ‘coalitions of the willing’ who intend to play a significant role in the implementation of policy and action which supports the global transition.
A Global Transition from an economy that is unsustainable to one that supports wellbeing, equality, and operates within environmental limits equitably is essential to achieving sustainable development. In light of the ‘priority areas’ of the green economy that have been identified in the zero draft process so far, as well as the proposed Sustainable Development Goals, the Global Transition Dialogue #2 will focus on practical and implementable approaches to these key areas; and will provide a forum for a range of actors to ‘cluster’ around some of the priority areas and develop thinking on how the transition can be achieved for each.
For more information about the Dialogue please contact Kirsty Schneeberger on: kirstys@stakeholderforum.org
Dialogue papers that will inform the discussions will be hosted at the Global Transition 2012 online platform at globaltransition2012.org

Global Transition 2012
The Global Transition 2012 is an international network of organisations and leading thinkers from the Global North and South.
It is catalysing a ‘Global Transition’ by building a community of civil society organisations across the globe to promote and deliver a rapid transition to the desirable and beneficial economy that we aspire to.
The ultimate vision of the initiative is an alternative global green economy that maximises well-being, operates within environmental limits and is capable of coping and adapting to global environmental change.
Stakeholder Forum for a Sustainable Future, nef (the new economics foundation) and New Economics Institute are working in partnership to achieve this. Working with other partners such as the Green Economy Coalition and Bioregional, we are aiming to grow the network of organisations from now, in the lead up to Rio+20 and beyond.
